What is Super 8 and why choose it for your Wedding film?

A question we are often asked at s8 films is "what actually is Super 8?"

Well, whenever you see "home movie" footage from the 1960s and 1970s, the chances are they would have been filmed on Super 8mm Cine film as this was the main filming medium used at the time. Super 8 film was launched by Kodak in 1965, making film-making available to all. The "8" refers to how wide the film is itself, 8mm! People used mechanical Super 8 movie cameras and celluloid film cartridges to film their Weddings and special events. The film stock is sometimes known as Cine film, Super 8mm or Super 8 but it is all the same thing - this can be confusing!

But why use Super-8 now in the digital age?

Well, Super 8 has the unmistakable “look and feel” of real movie film. It is the same film stock used by the film industry but just in a smaller gauge.  When using it you get a lovely grain, flickers of light, vintage colouration and more!

So we love using it for our Weddings because it always captures the atmosphere of the day with a lovely timeless, vintage look and feel.

  1. Wow!! It’s really awesome video. Now-a-days some of couples is not satisfied with only having photographs of their special day. They also want to have a video that they can watch whenever they want to revisit the special moments of that day. Photographs are not always able to capture those special moments and feelings the way that videos can. Unfortunately, with these the images and sound quality can often be poor. With professional wedding Videography the images and audio are of better quality. With the right equipment, editing and camera person, these can look like commercially produced videos.
